We have just completed a 4200 mile journey from California to Virginia which took 5 weeks and 20 stops. We can absolutely say that this RV Park is the best one we stayed at. It is quiet, clean, scenic and the managers are wonderful. We will be returning to California in November and will definitely be staying here again.

Jeff and Sharon Davis

Absolutely great place to stay...owners are great people and always go out of their way to help out...always look forward to my trips to North River...

Jeff Goetz

Pat and Beverly are the BEST!! This is the perfect place to go for RV's who want to "Visit" the beach, without all the traffic and cost, and enjoy a relaxing and pleasant getaway. Nice pool, which does have furniture and is bigger than a tub... and a beautiful pond full of fish:-) Catch & let-go! We can't wait to return and look forward to hanging out with our friends. God bless!

I was in a group of five bicyclists touring the NC coast. We were tenting, and arrived on an evening when severe rain threatened. In consideration of the weather forecast, the owners offered to let us tent inside their pavilion building, which overlooked a nice lake. We really appreciated this thoughtful accommodation, provided at no additional cost. Pizza and wings available in their store were good too!! It is one of the nicest, well cared for, complete RV campground we have visited. Beautiful surroundings and pleasant helpful staff made it so worth the drive in.

After being on the road full time for the past few years we came across this campground way off the beaten track. It is one of the nicest, well cared for, complete RV campground we have visited. Beautiful surroundings and pleasant helpful staff made it so worth the drive in.

The Risleys

Great campground with very friendly staff. We go for weekend trips and will be going again soon. It is one of our go to get away spots. The park is very clean and quiet. Nice large sites and not to close together. If you are looking for a secluded getaway this is an A+ campground.

To start, this is a clean well maintained campground. My husband works for Dominion Power, so we travel a lot and have stayed in quite a few campgrounds. We stayed here for 7months, starting on Jan23rd 2016 and we were paid up on our rent until Sept23rd 2016. I paid our rent on a Tuesday, 22nd of August, it was due on Wednesday the 23rd. My husband got notified on Friday 25th that he was needed in Va for work. I told the office on that Saturday that he had gotten the call and that we would be leaving on Wednesday the 31st. I didn't ask for any kind of refund because I had heard others talk about how "they" don't give refunds. I figured since we were paid up until the 23rd of September the lot would just sit empty. WRONG! I was notified that they had moved someone on our lot the weekend after we left. So they collected double rent on that lot. I don't know if that's legal but I know it's not very businesslike. It was very disturbing for me because out of all the campgrounds we have stayed at, we had never been treated that way. So my point is, that the last (7nights), that we stayed there was mighty expensive! So hold on to your money tight when dealing with this campground!

Recently (Aug 21-23, 2016) had our 3rd stay at this well manicured, pristine campground. Quiet and friendly campground with great staff. Since it's only and hour and half from home (Hertford, NC), it's our campground of choice for a quick getaway for a few days. Also, the pizza in the camp store is delicious.

We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend here. We stayed in one of their cabins. It had everything that you would need for a wonderful stay. Staff was very nice. My husband went fishing and I read my books and walked our dogs. Which is exactly what we had intended to do, relax. Grounds are well kept, nice and tidy. Can't wait to go back.

Jim and Jill Walls

I called them several times because I had trouble locating them. They were very nice each time and did not make me feel like I was a bother. When my husband and I got there, we all laughed and they said Hi Kesha- I knew then we were welcomed. The campsite is beautifully kept the lake is an awesome attraction. The staff is great and very friendly. They have great attractions. Nice and peaceful atmosphere. We will gladly return and have told some friends and family about our awesome experience. Thanks so much to the owners and all the staff!!

We decided on a last minute, one night camping trip to escape the beach traffic on July 18th and we called North River Campground. They were very helpful and great to deal with before, during and when leaving the campground. This was the first camping trip we have been able to go on in over 10 years. This was a great campground!!! My grown kids and our grandkids want to go back as often as they can. The thin crust Pizzas were loved by all.

You folks probably won't remember us but we had the worst and the best experience on a vacation to Hatteras back in 2006, on our way down our Ford F250 pickups transmission blew up at the Wal-Mart going into the outer banks. Calling Good Sam's to get help they sent us to you. Our truck was sent to the Ford dealer in Elizabeth City for a new Transmission, this all happened on a Friday, nothing could be done till Monday. On our way to you my wife and I as we were driving in the tow truck with our camper behind us thought where on earth were we going as we were driving through corn fields and such, then all a sudden we saw the campground WOW! We were very impressed, when we checked in you had heard from GS and were ready for us, we were given a site and things got started, we had little food and didn't know where we were, so you all took us to the store and out to eat, the next day a GS rally was at the campground and the hospitality they showed us was just great, they invited us to there Mexican dinner, we had a great time. On Monday we were told by Ford that our truck could be picked up on Tuesday, and again you all came through by driving us to town to pick up our truck. "Wow what great people you meet RVing". We can't say enough about your kindness. Sorry that it took so long to tell our story, but I have just found your Web site. Thank you all so much again and may God bless you all.

Peter and Maggie Molnar

Lovely campground peaceful and clean GPS brought us in off 158 you guys need a sign out there by the way. Wonderful location for easy access to outer banks bike rally without being in the winds and sand you can get in outer banks locations. BT (dog) friendly. My sister came in a day ahead of us and stayed in a room awaiting our arrival. What a great idea. She was happy they had checked out your web page and found out you had that option as they were booked into a room 40 miles away

Chris & Cindy Metcalfe

I have to say this campground is one of the nicest I have ever visited. Clean large sites wonderful staff. We came here for some much needed peace and quiet for our 41st anniversary and it was a perfect fit. We will be returning often!!

Di & Ron Watson

This is one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed in. Clean, neat and the GPS brought us right to it. Only small drawback was no pull thru but the rest of the park easily made up for that.

Garth McCutcheon

I'm sure of the many visitors you guys have had you'll not remember myself and my wife Judy until I possibly mention a broken RV side window! We stayed only one night (wish it could have been more another time) on 3rd October. However, you were so kind to offer assistance repairing, if only temporarily, the broken window and you supplied some plastic sheeting which we attached with the help of duck-tape.

Despite the many suggestions of glazing companies let me assure you that none were able to assist us some quoting a 6 week delivery date! In the end we decided to fix the plastic sheeting more permanently with further duck-tape and continued our journey. At times we were caught in heavy storms with strong winds and heavy rain (one day it rained non-stop for 24 hours) however, fortunately a 1000 miles later we are pleased to say the plastic kept the wet outside!

The RV is now safely stored in Connecticut and measurements have been taken and apparently the whole window unit will have to be replaced. This will be done prior to out next trip sometime in May 2015.

I just wanted to let you know how grateful we were for your kind assistance and also thank you for the gifts we found inside the envelope you gave us. Very good and once again, we're sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Richard & Judy McAlpine

I cannot thank you enough for a wonderful stay and refuge from the storm (Hurricane Arthur). Your campground is so clean and beautiful and our time there was very relaxing. We also appreciate the local-advice on some fun spots to check out in the area. We had such an awesome time crabbing in the Sound.

Above all, thank you Judy & Everett for being so hospitable to our family. I was very anxious about the coming storm and each time I came to you with my concerns you calmed me down. (My whole family appreciates that!). As you promised me, the storm came through without much excitement in the campground. It was the perfect place to be!

I would recommend your campground to anyone!

Give some puppy kisses to your BTs from our BTs, Marshall and Wally! And I never did get to see those bears so I guess we will have to come back soon!

Donna & Tom Brihn

This one of our favorite campgrounds. The sites are large and clean. A real quite place to relax. Oh, the lake has plenty of fish. The owners are wonderful people. We will be back many times.

Gary Hackworth

Had a most enjoyable stay when visiting from the UK. The whole site is impeccably kept and run by polite and helpful people. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

Kevin Parry

My wife and I have been camping for many years, North River is among the best campgrounds we have ever stayed. We were there for the first time on May 31st to June 3, 2014. When looking for the campground we missed the turn off of Hwy 158, we were beginning to wonder where this place was. I have picked campgrounds off the internet in the past, and sometimes the pictures on the internet are misleading. This time the pictures on the internet don't do this place justice. The camp sites are beautiful, the whole park is beautiful. I did very little to level my trailer. It's about a 3 hour drive from Raleigh and a great place to stay to visit outer banks. We will be back.

Gany & Judy

A group of us stayed here in April 2013 for a local bike ride. Some of us were in the cabins, some in the RV sites. None of us had a single complaint. The campground is very pet friendly and several in our group brought their dogs with them. The campground is well maintained and the owners are very accommodating to any request you may have. Very happy to have found this gem!

Patti Shew

After a website review decided to book a stay in June 2013. So glad we did! This campground is a true gem. Quiet, very well maintained and enjoyable. Check in was pleasant and fast. Staff helped us to our site and offered any assistance to help us get settled. Wonderful sites overlooking the pond. We are fortunate to live about an hour away, so we're going to become regulars. This campground is perfect for a "get away from it all" trip.

Glenn and Tina Rainey

Stayed here for about four nights with another couple and their RV. Ms. Judy is a very nice lady and the others who work there. The sites are nice and the entire place is very clean. If I had one negative comment, it is that there are no trees around the sites, so you are in the direct sun most of the day.

Wayne Middlebrook

The SMART Cats had their first campout here, 05/13. A wonderful time was had by all. The Campground was prestine. We all enjoyed our stay and have changed our Nov and Dec muster campouts from Williamsburg to this Campground. They offer to have your camper backed into site by the owner. He did an excellent job backing it invert quickly. Sites are level and picnic tables are on slabs. The roads going to the campground from Virginia are very smooth.I've been camping for over 40 yrs and the campground gets a 10 from me.

Bev Hanhart

What a great week end camp ground as always clean , when you walk into the office nice people to wait on you and great BBQ dinner this was the PIG PICKIN WEEK END .The Sawyers did a good job on that food. Thanks for a beautiful place to go.

Janis Belch

Travled 325 miles. Booked a motel room for 2 days to fish in North river. 1st day all is well, fish biting/catching. In the evening boat motor broke. Went to campground office, told them the situation, they called for Everett (owner). Told him the situation and that we plan on returning. Asked if we could get a rain check, or money back for day 2, cause we cant fish. His response was no, cause they couldn't get the room cleaned and rented for the next day. We were the only people using the motel that night. Only car in the parking lot so I am sure he had several rooms available. I guess $55 is worth more now than my fishing buddies coming every year, twice a year for the next 10 years. I'm sure you probably wont post this cause that was a very bad business decision. Its not even about the money, its the principle. Please check your books, would you have lost money? Will not ever go back, will book elsewhere..and drive to the river...

Bryan Carfley

We have stayed here with our Good Sam group and on our own. Every time we have been here we feel like we are visiting family! Everett and Judy make you feel very welcome. The campground is clean, it is very quiet, the sites are level, and the grounds are beautiful. You couldn't ask for more!

Jerry and Lyn Oster

We stayed here 5 Days in Late April 2012, what a delight. You probably won't find a better maintained campground on the east coast, like camping on a golf course with trees. The pride the owner's have in their campground in evident in the perpetual care and upkeep they give to the campground. All of the sites have concrete patios, very nice tables and a large split wine barrel planter at each site, what a nice touch. The store is well stocked and very reasonable prices. The lake is a focal point, and it does not lack a generous compliment of Bass and other fish. Also pets are welcomed and from what I saw the campers are diligent in policing up after their pets. A truly nice place to spend time. We also found some incredible restaurants close by. We want to thank the owners and staff for making this such an enjoyable, clean, and restful place to camp.

George & Barbara Cipra

We came out to visit the campground. The owners were so friendly and kind allowing us to tour the grounds with our granddaughter. We are looking forward to a great weekend there very soon. The ground so clean enough to eat off. What a great campground.

Larry and Trudy Riggens

My husband got a job at the coast guard station in Elizabeth City. We were not a stranger to this area. We came upon the campground while we were driving around one evening. We got here in May of this year and are not planning to go anywhere else. We have made our minds up to stay a year or so. The campground is one of the most beautiful places to stay in my opinion around this area. It is quiet and peaceful. I am just so glad that there is a campground still around that still except dogs. We all love it here. Judy and Everett are the most beautiful people you will ever meet. They have treated us like family. They are part of our family now and will always be part of our family. It is OUR HOME. I love how even if they are busy, they both take the time out to talk with you, make or tell jokes, and even make house calls to say hello to you. They bend backwards to make your stay for a week, month or even years an enjoyable and life remembering experience. Even the staff that work for Judy and Everett are the best. If you needed anything, they are willing to be right there and help. We love everything about this campground. Thank you so much Judy and Everett. We love you.

Donald & Christina DeFoe

My husband is in the Coast Guard and was transferred to Elizabeth City in July. We chose the route of utilizing a camper as opposed to an apartment while he was there. My husband found this camp ground and it is a great place for those who are staying long term. We have two dogs traveling with my husband and they are loving every minute of the sites and sounds. Additionally, we visited my husband last week and were very comfortable with the location and the surroundings. My husband has stated that being at this camp ground has given him a place to relax and enjoy being with the dogs and it helps since he is so far from his family. The boys stayed in a hotel room on grounds, although small, it did the job and gave them a place to sleep outside of the trailer. They loved the pool and game room as well. I feel comfortable that, although my husband is over 800 miles from home, he is in a safe and comfortable environment. I appreciate the social gatherings, it gives him the chance to be social and meet people. I am glad we made the trip and grateful that my husband is in a safe and comfortable environment. I would recommend this camp site to anyone traveling in that area.

Lynn Welch

We really enjoyed the friendly way that you are treated when you arrived and including the whole time we were there. The sites are wonderful and level. The morning and evenings are beautiful with the sun rise and setting. A great family and relaxing atmosphere. Look forward to our next visit. Thanks to the owners and staff for making our outing a pleasant one. See you soon!

David & Susan Newton + Tanner

Great campground, we enjoyed our stay very much, owners are very nice, my daughter was hoping to get in the pool but they are still trying to get the water right. We will return.

Came home today after a week at North River Campground and some great Bluegrass music. Had a wonderful vacation. Very clean and well run camp ground, would recommend it to everyone. Thank you to Judy & Everett, you do a great job.

The Bristow's

North River is by far the best campground we have ever been to, it is quiet and peaceful and they welcome you like family every time you visit. Judy and Everett go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay be it one night or a week. We go there whenever we can.

Julian and Nancy

JOE LONCE thanks for your negative comment we were looking at the web for a place in the area to camp if they made you put your "mut" on a leash that made up our mind's we will be staying at North River for sure. Thank you!

Harold & Reba

The campground is beautiful and very clean. Judy and Everett really care about the people who stay with them Everett will stop by just to say hi and joke around with my husband. It is our get away place we live about one hour away and just go the weekend ,love it. Thanks Judy and Everett for all you do!

Tommy and Janis

I have stayed at North River Campground for the last 30 days. It is such an enjoyable place to be. Beautiful grounds that are far and beyond what you would expect from a normal campground. The lake, fishing and quietness are what i like most of all. I am not sure how long I will be here, but you can bet that I will be back. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer for a great place to relax!

Scott

As an Aviation Contractor, my wife and I have had the pleasure of finding this campground. Over the next 12 months I have found that this campground offers excellent accomodations, activities for every age group. We found this campground to be maintained and operated by Judy & Everett Sawyer, and the made us feel like family, a true pleasure to have met. They strive for perfection, and those who have stayed at this campground will agree, the lawns are maintained, trimmed, RV sites have patios, and pinic tables, all or most overlooking a 5 acre lake. The Sawyers, even have train rides for the children, and it was amazing to see all the children riding around the lake on this train. I would recommend this campground to any first time campers, as well as the numerous groups which exisit. The quality of this campground sets the standards for others to follow. I would like to thank the Sawyers for their hospitality and friendship, and look forward to planning a vacation there in the near future.

William & Barbara Kuhn

We just stayed at North River campground last night and had a wonderful time. I must agree that this campground is spotless. We brought our inflatable canoe and paddled around the lake and under the fountain to cool off. The staff are extremely friendly. The fire ring was so nice to enjoy. Will we return? You bet - we have already made reservations :) If you love nature - you will love this campground tucked away off the beaten path.

Elaina & George Laurick

Our stay at North River was terrific and the facilities are super. A very nice place to rest and relax as well as meet some fine folks from around the country. Wish we could stay longer. Catch you on the way back form Maine.

Norman & Karen

We have been to many campgrounds in our travels, and Everett and Judy have have carved out one of the very best.

It's clean, well maintained, and your made to feel at home.

 We thank you..

We come here every year to break in our new Scouts and Parents to the camping experience and to let the Parents see what they should have to go camping. This campground has all the best that Camping has to offer for Cub Scouts. The sites are clean and the owners take good care of the grounds and are very friendly. We look forward to this camping trip every year. If your Scouts are looking for GREAT Place to camp this would be it!!!!

Cub Scout Pack 116

VERY clean, neat and QUIET campground. Beautiful large site, serene wooded surroundings, and pretty lake with a fountain. Did I say QUIET? It was the most relaxing campground my wife and I have visited. Thanks, we'll be back.
